Target Background

Function
Acts as one of several non-catalytic accessory components of the cytoplasmic dynein complex that are thought to be involved in linking dynein to cargos and to adapter proteins that regulate dynein function. Cytoplasmic dynein 1 acts as a motor for the intracellular retrograde motility of vesicles and organelles along microtubules. May play a role in changing or maintaining the spatial distribution of cytoskeletal structures. Also a component of the nuclear pore complex where it may contribute to the stable association of the Nup82 subcomplex with the NPC.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Both, Pex14p and Pex17p interact directly with Dyn2p, but in vivo, Pex17p turned out to be prerequisite for an association of Dyn2p with Pex14p. PMID: 27823812
  2. interactions of a yeast ortholog of N-IC (N-Pac11) with yeast LC8 (Dyn2) or with the intermediate chain-binding subunit of yeast dynactin (Nip100). PMID: 26253171
  3. The Dyn2-Pac11 complex promotes Dyn1 homodimerization and potentiates processivity. PMID: 23761070
  4. Multiple recognition motifs in nucleoporin Nup159 provide a stable and rigid Nup159-Dyn2 assembly PMID: 23223634
  5. Data indicate that the comparative binding of Dyn2 to two Nup159 target sites shows similar affinities (18 and 13 muM), but divergent thermal binding modes. PMID: 22411995
  6. Dynein-based function of Dyn2 is via its interaction with the dynein intermeadite chains; this interaction is also important for the interaction of dynein and dynactin. PMID: 21633107
  7. Dynein light chain plays a role in organizing natively unfolded Phe-Gly repeats within the NPC scaffold to facilitate nucleocytoplasmic transport PMID: 17546040
