Target Background

Function
Microtubule-associated protein required for seed development and for microtubule function in the endosperm. Associates with nuclear microtubules during mitosis. Binds to microtubules of the spindle and spindle-poles and to midzone microtubules out of which the phragmoplast emerges. Not associated with cortical microtubules. Required for endosperm cellularization. May be bound and sequestered by GRF5 in an inactive soluble form during the early stages of mitosis.
Gene References into Functions
  1. EDE1, but not AUG8, is associated with acentrosomal spindle and phragmoplast microtubule (MT) arrays in patterns indistinguishable from those of the AUG1-7 subunits and the gamma-tubulin complex proteins (GCPs) that exhibit biased localization toward MT minus ends. PMID: 29225022
  2. 14-3-3 upsilon most strongly associates with EDE1 in its free form, but also weakly when EDE1 is bound to microtubules. PMID: 21558460
  3. EDE1 is a novel plant-specific microtubule-associated protein essential for microtubule function during the mitotic and cytokinetic stages that generate the Arabidopsis endosperm and embryo. [EDE1] PMID: 19151224
Subcellular Location
Cytoplasm. Cytoplasm, cytoskeleton. Note=Microtubule-associated.
Protein Families
QWRF family
Tissue Specificity
Highly expressed in young siliques, seedlings, flower buds and open flowers. Weak expression in roots, and not detected in older siliques and mature leaves. Expressed in the embryo sac in prefertilization ovules and in seeds following fertilization. Detec
