Function

Phosphorylates 2 adjacent threonine residues, 'Thr-57' and 'Thr-59', in the N-terminus of eukaryotic elongation factor-2.

Genetic deletion of the eEF2K ortholog efk-1 reduced oxidative stress, and improved chemotaxis and serotonin sensitivity in C. elegans expressing human Abeta42 in neurons. Study highlights the potential utility of eEF2K inhibition to reduce Abeta-mediated oxidative stress in Alzheimer's disease. PMID: 27752775
