Target Background

Function

Involved in the recovery of exogenous heme iron. Extracts iron from heme while preserving the tetrapyrrol ring intact. Also displays peroxidase activity on guaiacol in vitro.

YcdB from Escherichia coli is a member of a novel class of Tat-dependently translocated hemoproteins PMID: 16551627
overexpression, purification, crystallization and structure determination at 2.0 A resolution are reported for the apo form of YcdB. PMID: 17183171
YfeX and EfeB are widespread and highly conserved in bacteria. We propose that their physiological function is to retrieve iron from heme. PMID: 19564607
