Function

It is thought to provide protection for the cytoplasm during the desiccation stage of embryo development.

Gene References into Functions

One possible function for ATEM6 in seed development is to buffer the water loss that occurs during embryo maturation. PMID: 16361514
ATEM6 protein is not required in mature seeds for viability or efficient germination, and absence of ATEM6 results in accelerated acquisition of desiccation tolerance in mutant seeds. PMID: 19073649
