Target Background

Function
Probable lipid transfer protein (LTP). May improve freezing survival. Seems to control the flowering process and lignin synthesis. Has an auxiliary role for germinability and early seedling development under low temperature and salt stress conditions, probably in an abscisic acid- (ABA) dependent manner. Confers resistance to Botrytis cinerea and exhibits anti-fungal activity, at least against S.cerevisiae, B. cinerea and Fusarium oxysporum, probably by increasing their membrane permeability.
Gene References into Functions
  1. localizes to expected places for lipid exchange/movement to occur PMID: 26203923
  2. vivo expression of the secreted form of EARLI1 in S. cerevisiae had a remarkable inhibition effect on the growth of yeast cells PMID: 22759515
  3. we propose that EARLI1 proteins have a bimodular architecture in which the proline-rich domain may interact with the cell wall and the 8CM domain with the plasma membrane to protect the cells during freezing stress PMID: 17786468
Subcellular Location
Secreted, cell wall.
Protein Families
Plant LTP family, PEARLI1 subfamily
Tissue Specificity
Mostly expressed in aerial part of seedlings, and, to a lower extent, in roots. Higher basal levels in early-flowering ecotypes.
