Target Background

Function

Chloroplast omega-3 fatty acid desaturase introduces the third double bond in the biosynthesis of 16:3 and 18:3 fatty acids, important constituents of plant membranes. It is thought to use ferredoxin as an electron donor and to act on fatty acids esterified to galactolipids, sulfolipids and phosphatidylglycerol.

These results suggest that the ozone-induced expression of FAD7 gene requires SA, but not ethylene, JA, NPR1 and SID2. PMID: 16415067
FAD7 catalyses the production of jasmonic acid, andis induced locally by wounding. RNA polymerase II C-terminal domain phosphatases are negative regulators of FAD7 expression. PMID: 18764923
