Target Background

Function
Functions as an auxiliary enzyme in the beta-oxidation of unsaturated fatty acids with double bonds at even carbon positions. Catalyzes the NADPH-dependent reduction of the C4-C5 double bond of the acyl chain of 2,4-dienoyl-CoA to yield 2-trans-enoyl-CoA. Acts on both isomers, 2-trans,4-cis- and 2-trans,4-trans-decadienoyl-CoA, with almost equal efficiency. Is not active with NADH instead of NADPH. Does not show cis->trans isomerase activity.
Gene References into Functions
  1. We report mapping of the fadH promoter and document its complex regulation by three independent regulators, the fatty acid degradation FadR repressor, the oxygen-responsive ArcA-ArcB two-component system, and the cyclic AMP receptor protein-cyclic AMP. PMID: 20622065
  2. supports a mechanism that has Tyr166 with the assistance of His252 acting as proton donor in the wild-type enzyme to produce 2-enoyl-CoA PMID: 18171025
Protein Families
NADH:flavin oxidoreductase/NADH oxidase family
