Target Background

Function
Converts fumarylacetoacetate to acetoacetate and fumarate. Involved in tyrosine catabolic pathway. Catalyzes the final step in the tyrosine degradation pathway.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Loss of FAH in sscd1 leads to the accumulation of Tyr degradation intermediates, which impairs the up-regulation of some ROS-scavenging genes under salt stress, causing more accumulation of ROS, resulting in the hypersensitivity of sscd1 to salt stress PMID: 29785518
  2. Disruption of fumarylacetoacetate hydrolase causes spontaneous cell death under short-day conditions in Arabidopsis. PMID: 23743712
