Target Background

Function
Fatty acid 2-hydroxylase involved in the alpha-hydroxylation of sphingolipid-associated very long-chain fatty acids (VLCFA). Probably involved in the resistance response to oxidative stress.
Gene References into Functions
  1. FAH1 enzyme is capable of forming alpha-hydroxylated ceramides. PMID: 23025549
  2. AtFAH1 and AtFAH2 had fatty acid 2-hydroxylase activity, and the interaction with Arabidopsis cytochrome b5 was needed for the sufficient activity. PMID: 22635113
Subcellular Location
Endoplasmic reticulum membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.
Protein Families
Sterol desaturase family
Tissue Specificity
Expressed in leaves, roots, flowers and seeds.
