Target Background

Function
Processively dephosphorylates 'Ser-2' and 'Ser-5' of the heptad repeats YSPTSPS in the C-terminal domain of the largest RNA polymerase II subunit (RPB1). This promotes the activity of RNA polymerase II.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Fcp1 has a role in the recycling of RNAPII after dissociation from active genes PMID: 15563457
  2. Fcp1 directly recognizes the C-terminal domain (CTD) and interacts with a site on RNA polymerase II distinct from the CTD. PMID: 16301539
  3. Ssu72 catalyzes serine-5-P dephosphorylation subsequent to addition of the 7-methylguanosine cap on pre-mRNA in a manner that facilitates the RNAP II transition into the elongation stage of the transcription cycle. PMID: 17101794
  4. The structure of FCP1, an essential RNA polymerase II CTD phosphatase, is reported. PMID: 19026779
Subcellular Location
Nucleus.
