Target Background

Function
Transcriptional activator involved in the FRIGIDA-mediated vernalization pathway, but not in the autonomous flowering pathway. Acts cooperatively with FRI (FRIGIDA) or FRL1 (FRIGIDA-LIKE 1) to promote FLC (FLOWERING LOCUS C) expression. Required for the stabilization of the FRI-C complex.

  1. Epistasis analysis between FES1, FRI and FRIGIDA-LIKE 1 (FRL1), indicates that these genes do not function in a linear pathway, but instead act cooperatively to promote the expression of FLC. PMID: 16291783
