Target Background

Function
Required for induction of expression of the formate dehydrogenase H and hydrogenase-3 structural genes. Also activates expression of hyf operon (encodes the silent hydrogenase-4 gene cluster).
Gene References into Functions
  1. The physiological role of FHL is to oxidize formate with the concomitant production of molecular hydrogen. The unambiguous demonstration that FHL can operate in the fi xing of CO2 to formate both in vivo and in vitro is an important fi nding. PMID: 27139710
  2. Hfq binding site in the fhlA mRNA leader region facilitates the OxyS-fhlA interaction. PMID: 20927406
