Target Background

Function
FliM is one of three proteins (FliG, FliN, FliM) that forms the rotor-mounted switch complex (C ring), located at the base of the basal body. This complex interacts with the CheY and CheZ chemotaxis proteins, in addition to contacting components of the motor that determine the direction of flagellar rotation.
Gene References into Functions
  1. The results indicate that FliG has a significant tendency to form multimers independently of other flagellar components. The multimerization of FliG is promoted by FliF and also by FliM. PMID: 28625846
  2. The curve for the pre-adapted flagellar motor with a specific number of FliM units is about a factor of 2 steeper than the measurement in a previous study. PMID: 23454041
Subcellular Location
Cell inner membrane; Peripheral membrane protein. Bacterial flagellum basal body.
