Target Background

Function
Required for replication fork blocking activity at the replication fork barrier (RFB) site in rDNA and for recombination hot-spot (HOT1) activity, regulating the recombination rate and the number of rDNA copies. Binds directly to two separated sequences in the RFB.
Gene References into Functions
  1. We conclude that Fob1 and Pol I make independent contributions to establishment of silencing, though Pol I also reinforces Fob1-dependent silencing. PMID: 27060141
  2. the replication terminator protein Fob1 of Saccharomyces cerevisiae promoted chromosome kissing that initiated rDNA recombination and controlled the replicative life span (RLS). PMID: 26063576
  3. deletion of FOB1 corrects the genome-wide replication defects, nucleolar structure, and rDNA segregation that occur in a eco1 mutant that has reduced ribosomal DNA (rDNA) transcription and a transcriptional signature of starvation. PMID: 24631914
  4. Replication fork arrest and rDNA silencing are two independent and separable functions of the replication terminator protein Fob1 of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. PMID: 20179323
  5. The binding to DNA of Fob1p itself may be the cause of the DNA topoisomerase I activity in the rDNA enhancer. PMID: 16269824
  6. FOB1 plays a novel role in preventing repeat contraction by regulating condensin association and suggest a link between replication termination and chromosome condensation and segregation PMID: 16507999
  7. Checkpoint proteins regulated the initiation and progression of recombination at Fob1-Ter (Ter sites are replication barrier sites) complexes. PMID: 19234097
