Target Background

Function
Peptidoglycan polymerase that is essential for cell division. Functions probably in conjunction with the penicillin-binding protein 3 (ftsI). Required for localization of FtsI.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Data show that the transmembrane helix 4 of membrane protein FtsW is required for the transport activity of the protein. PMID: 24711460
  2. identification of several domains of the protein with distinct functions in cell division PMID: 15576787
  3. FtsW is associated in a hierarchical set of protein complexes and its assembly can occur independently of 'upstream' proteins. PMID: 16824093
  4. Data show that FtsW interact with MtgA and help MtgA's role in peptidoglycan assembly during the cell cycle. PMID: 18165305
Subcellular Location
Cell inner membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein. Note=Localizes to the division septum. Localization requires FtsZ, FtsA, FtsQ and FtsL, but not FtsI.
Protein Families
SEDS family, FtsW subfamily
