Target Background

Function
Guanylate cyclase involved in the production of the second messenger cGMP. Regulates chemotaxis responses toward Na(1+) and Li(1+) salt ions and alkaline pH in ASE left (ASEL) sensory neuron. Directly senses environmental alkalinity in ASEL neuron which probably leads to the activation of cGMP-gated cation channel tax2/tax4.
Gene References into Functions
  1. A transmembrane receptor-type guanylyl cyclase, GCY-14, of the ASEL gustatory neuron, plays an essential role in the sensing of extracellular alkalinity. Activation of GCY-14 opens a cGMP-gated cation channel, resulting in Ca(2+) entry into ASEL. PMID: 23664973
Subcellular Location
Cell membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein. Cell projection, cilium.
Protein Families
Adenylyl cyclase class-4/guanylyl cyclase family
Tissue Specificity
Expressed asymmetrically in ASEL sensory neuron.
