Target Background

Function
Represses the expression of both the krueppel and knirps segmentation gap genes. Binds, in vitro, to the krueppel regulatory elements CD1 and CD2. It is required in the early embryo for the development of portions of the head and abdomen.
Gene References into Functions
  1. there are two phases of transcriptional regulation for the gap gene giant in Drosophila PMID: 26806702
  2. two polycomb response elements-containing regions at the Polycomb-group proteins target gene, giant, one at the promoter, and another approximately 6 kb upstream. PMID: 24170735
  3. Results showed Gt repression roles in the regulation of two groups of partially overlapping stripes and that Gt morphogen activity is part of the mechanism responsible for the differential positioning of these stripes borders. PMID: 20925117
  4. gt likely controls ecdysone production indirectly by contributing the peptidergic phenotype of the PTTH-producing neurons in the embryo PMID: 20816678
  5. The Drosophila gap gene giant has an anterior segment identity function mediated through disconnected and teashirt. PMID: 18493063
