Target Background

Function
Functions as soluble gibberellin (GA) receptor. GA is an essential hormone that regulates growth and development in plants. Binds with high affinity the biologically active gibberellin GA4, but has no affinity for the biologically inactive GAs. In response to GA, interacts with specific DELLA proteins, known as repressors of GA-induced growth, and targets them for degradation via proteasome. Seems to be required for GA signaling that controls root growth, seed germination and stem elongation. Partially redundant with GID1A and GID1B.
Gene References into Functions
  1. AtGID1a, AtGID1b and AtGID1c function as GA receptors in Arabidopsis. [AtGID1c] PMID: 16709201
  2. The double knockout mutant atgid1a atgid1c showed a dwarf phenotype. The triple knockout mutant atgid1a atgid1b atgid1c did not germinate voluntarily, and only started to grow when the seed coat was peeled off after soaking. PMID: 17521411
  3. GID1a, GID1b, GID1c are the predominant GA receptors in regulating GA growth response in Arabidopsis. GA binding to GID1a promotes its interaction with DELLA proteins. [GID1c] PMID: 17194763
