Target Background

Function
Involved in synthesis of starch. Catalyzes the synthesis of ADP-glucose, a molecule that serves as an activated glycosyl donor for alpha-1,4-glucan synthesis. Essential for starch synthesis in seed endosperm. Is essential for both catalytic and allosteric regulatory properties of the cytosolic heterotetramer enzyme.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Starch biosynthesis during endosperm development is mainly controlled by the catalytic activity of the cytoplasmic AGPase and its allosteric regulation by the effectors. The L2 subunit is essential for catalysis and allosteric regulatory of the enzyme. PMID: 24747952
Subcellular Location
Cytoplasm, cytosol.
Protein Families
Bacterial/plant glucose-1-phosphate adenylyltransferase family
