Target Background

Function
Catalyzes the NADPH-dependent reduction of glyoxylate to glycolate as well as succinic semialdehyde (SSA) to gamma-hydroxybutyrate in vitro. May function in redox homeostasis and play a role in oxidative stress tolerance by detoxifying glyoxylate and SSA generated in glycolate metabolism and GABA metabolism, respectively.
Gene References into Functions
  1. GR1 and GR2 are involved in the regulation of Succinic semialdehyde detoxification in plants. [glyoxylate reductase 2] [AtGR2] PMID: 18495640
  2. GR2 is glyoxylate reductase isoform that is localized to plastids. Kinetic studies revealed that the substrate preference for GR2 was similar to that reported for GR1. [GR2] PMID: 18495639
Subcellular Location
Plastid, chloroplast stroma.
Protein Families
3-hydroxyisobutyrate dehydrogenase family, NP60 subfamily
