Target Background

Function
Guanine nucleotide-binding proteins (G proteins) are involved as modulators or transducers in various transmembrane signaling systems. In the 1-cell embryo, probably together with goa-1, controls nuclear rotation and spindle elongation during mitosis. During the first embryonic cell divisons, plays a role in gpr-1/2 cortical localization and in the proper orientation of EMS blastomere mitotic spindle.
Gene References into Functions
  1. findings show that the GoLoco-containing proteins GPR-1 and GPR-2, as well as the Galpha subunits GOA-1 and GPA-16, were essential for generation of proper pulling forces in asymmetric spindle positioning PMID: 12750478
  2. Data show that the asymmetry of GPR-1/2 (which act with GOA-1 and GPA-16) localization depends on PAR-3 and its downstream intermediate LET-99, as well as on the MES-1/SRC-1 signaling pathway. PMID: 14534135
  3. Results show that the spn-1 gene encodes the Galpha protein GPA-16, which appears to be required for centrosomal association of a Gbeta protein. PMID: 14534142
  4. requirement toward GPA-16 is distinct from the known function of RIC-8 in enabling interaction between Galpha proteins and GPR-1/2 PMID: 16162648
