Target Background

Function
Transcription repressor that binds specific DNA sequence such as GT3 box 5'-GGTAAA-3' in the SDD1 promoter. Negative regulator of water use efficiency (WUE) via the promotion of stomatal density and distribution by the transcription repression of SDD1. Regulates the expression of several cell cycle genes and endoreduplication, especially in trichomes where it prevents ploidy-dependent plant cell growth. Regulates negatively root hair growth by directly binding RSL4 promoter and repressing RSL4 expression.
Gene References into Functions
  1. GTL1 actively terminates ploidy-dependent cell growth and its developmentally regulated expression is one of the key determinants of cell size in Arabidopsis leaf hair cells (trichomes). PMID: 23143274
  2. Study provides the genetic evidence for the requirement of transcriptional regulation in the repression of ploidy-dependent plant cell growth as well as for an involvement of GTL trihelix proteins in this regulation. PMID: 19717615
Subcellular Location
Nucleus.
Tissue Specificity
Mostly expressed in siliques, and, to a lower extent, in growing root hairs, leaves, stems, and flowers. Present in abaxial epidermal cells, predominantly in guard cells, pavement cells, and meristemoids.
