Target Background

Function

Involved in metal tolerance. Probably involved in the transport of metal-bound phytochelatins. Compartmentalizes cadmium within vacuoles, thereby protecting cells from cadmium toxicity.

Gene References into Functions

Drosophila ABC transporter, DmHMT-1, confers tolerance to cadmium. DmHMT-1 and its yeast homolog, SpHMT-1, are not essential for vacuolar phytochelatin sequestration. PMID: 19001374
SpHMT1 confers cadmium tolerance in the absence of phytochelatins but depending on the presence of GSH and ATP. PMID: 19054771
