Target Background

Function
Involved in the maturation of [NiFe] hydrogenases. Involved in the biosynthesis of the Fe(CN)(2)CO cofactor. HypC delivers iron-bound CO(2) to HypD where reduction to CO probably occurs. In complex with HypD, accepts the cyanide ligand generated by HypF and HypE, and also coordinates the carbon monoxide ligand. Involved in the maturation of the hydrogenase 3. Also participates in the maturation of hydrogenase 1.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Together, these findings identify amino acid regions in HypC accessory proteins that specify interaction with the large subunits of hydrogenase and demonstrate functional compatibility of Hyp accessory protein machineries. PMID: 26364315
  2. Sequence alignment and structural comparison reveal that the hydrophobic region on the surface of E. coli HypC, as well as the highly flexible C-terminal helixes, may involve in the interactions of E. coli HypC with other proteins. PMID: 17669368
