Target Background

Function
One of the essential components for the initiation of protein synthesis.IF-3 binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit and shifts the equilibrum between 70S ribosomes and their 50S and 30S subunits in favor of the free subunits, thus enhancing the availability of 30S subunits on which protein synthesis initiation begins.
Gene References into Functions
  1. The C-terminal domain of infC is essential for growth and the N-terminal domain adds to the fidelity of initiation of protein synthesis and to the fitness of the bacterial growth. PMID: 28320882
  2. These results strongly support a conformational selection model in which the conformation of IF3 that is selectively stabilized within a completely and correctly assembled 30S IC facilitates further progress along the initiation pathway. PMID: 23584454
  3. The importance of IF3 in the overall mechanism of ribosome recycling in E.coli. PMID: 16199751
  4. dynamic binding path of IF3 on the 30S subunit and its release upon 30S-50S association PMID: 17244535
  5. Study shows that after cold shock two promoters are activated resulting in de novo infC transcription and IF3 synthesis resulting in IF3/ribosomes ratio that contributes to establishing the cold-shock translational bias. PMID: 17592046
  6. overexpression of IF3 led to a marked decrease in re-initiation efficiency, suggesting that a 30S ribosome and not a 70S ribosome is used for translation re-initiation PMID: 18221266
