Target Background

Function
Probable pseudokinase that acts as an adapter protein. Component of an integrin containing attachment complex, which is required for muscle development and maintenance. Involved in the assembly of dense bodies and M lines during body wall muscle development by recruiting several of their components including integrin pat-3, cpna-1, unc-89 and unc-112 to integrin-mediated attachment sites. Plays a role in distal tip cell (DTC) migration and in oocyte development probably by regulating the actin cytoskeleton. During the formation of neuromuscular junctions at the larval stage, negatively regulates membrane protrusion from body wall muscles. May be involved in thermotolerance and lifespan.
Gene References into Functions
  1. isolation and characterization of PAT-4 missense mutations that permit binding with UNC-112 D382V PMID: 24692564
  2. The following model is proposed. UNC-112 exists in closed inactive and open active conformations, and upon binding of PAT-4 to the UNC-112 N-terminal half, UNC-112 is converted into the open state, able to bind to PAT-3. PMID: 22761445
  3. RNAi of pat-4 inhibited the overall assembly of actin cytoskeleton in somatic gonad, resulting in oocyte accumulation in the proximal gonad and distal tip cells migration defects. PMID: 16476426
Subcellular Location
Cytoplasm, myofibril, sarcomere, M line. Basal cell membrane; Peripheral membrane protein.
Protein Families
Protein kinase superfamily, TKL Ser/Thr protein kinase family
Tissue Specificity
Expressed in body wall muscle.
