Target Background

Function
Involved in cytokinin biosynthesis. Catalyzes the transfer of an isopentenyl group from dimethylallyl diphosphate (DMAPP) to ATP, ADP and AMP. Adenine, adenosine, isopentenylpyrophosphate and 1-hydroxy-2-methyl-2-(E)-butenyl 4-diphosphate (HMBDP) are not used as substrates.
Gene References into Functions
  1. The transient ipt transactivation greatly enhanced levels of biologically active cytokinins (CK) of zeatin (Z)-type and identified a developmental interval during which primary root elongation is susceptible to increases in endogenous CK production. PMID: 18296451
Subcellular Location
Plastid, chloroplast.
Protein Families
IPP transferase family
Tissue Specificity
Expressed in the vascular stele of the roots, in the xylem precursor cell files in the root tip, in leaf axils, ovules, and immature seeds.
