Study revealed that Irc3 - a dsDNA dependent ATPase of the Superfamily II- is essential for yeast mtDNA maintenance. irc3Delta mutant yeast cells accumulated double-stranded breaks in mtDNA and lose the wild-type mitochondrial genome in the course of a few generations of growth on glucose-containing media. These results demonstrate that Irc3 is a mitochondrial branch migration enzyme. PMID: 27194389
  2. Irc3 disrupts partially triple-stranded DNA structures in an ATP-dependent manner. Our kinetic experiments indicate that the rate of ATP hydrolysis by Irc3 is dependent on the length of the double-stranded DNA cosubstrate. PMID: 29113022
  3. The data suggest that Irc3p is required to avoid the accumulation of dsDNA breaks that could irreversibly damage the mitochondrial genetic system. PMID: 25389272
