Target Background

Function
Involved in the synthesis of the hemicellulose glucuronoxylan, a major component of secondary cell walls. Probably involved in the elongation of glucuronoxylan xylosyl backbone.
Gene References into Functions
  1. IRX10 and IRX10-L perform a critical function in the synthesis of glucuronoxylan during secondary cell-wall formation. PMID: 18980649
  2. IRX10 and IRX10-L act redundantly and are required for xylan chain elongation. PMID: 18980662
Subcellular Location
Golgi apparatus membrane; Single-pass type II membrane protein.
Protein Families
Glycosyltransferase 47 family
Tissue Specificity
Present in the xylem and phloem, and, to a lower extent, in interfascicular cells. Expressed in the root tip, shoot apical meristem (SAM), xylem cells of roots and stems, and in the vasculature of roots, cotyledons and leaves.
