Target Background

Function
Controls the morphogenesis of lateral organs. Functions in lateral organ shape and is sufficient to induce proliferation and growth of lateral organ tissue. Is necessary and sufficient for bract formation, but its expression is excluded from the cryptic bract, which could be a cause of bractless flowers in Arabidopsis. Participates with FIL and YAB3 in regulating valve margin development. Functions with JGL to define stamen and carpel shape. Functions with AS1 and AS2 in the sepal and petal primordia to repress boundary-specifying genes for normal development of the organs.
Gene References into Functions
  1. JAG functions as a direct mediator between genes that control the identity of organs and tissues and the cellular activities required for organ growth. PMID: 24497510
  2. JAG directly represses PTL, suggesting that the effect of JAG on the polarity field may be mediated by regulating auxin dynamics via PTL. PMID: 23653565
  3. JAG decouples cell cycle from cell growth during organ emergence. JAG promotes fast, anisotropic growth when floral organs emerge from the meristem and JAG directly represses meristem identity genes. PMID: 22902754
  4. JAG defines stamen and carpel shape. PMID: 16554365
Subcellular Location
Nucleus.
Tissue Specificity
Expressed in the emerging leaf, sepal, petal, stamen and carpel primordia. Not expressed in the apical shoot meristem (SAM).
