Target Background

Function
Involved in lipopolysaccharide (LPS) biosynthesis. Catalyzes the transfer of two 3-deoxy-D-manno-octulosonate (Kdo) residues from CMP-Kdo to lipid IV(A), the tetraacyldisaccharide-1,4'-bisphosphate precursor of lipid A.
Gene References into Functions
  1. WaaA overexpression increased levels of Kdo sugar in membrane extracts, whereas Kdo and heptose levels were not elevated in LPS. Uncontrolled WaaA production does not increase the LPS production rate but rather reglycosylates lipid A precursors. PMID: 26929331
Subcellular Location
Cell inner membrane; Single-pass membrane protein; Cytoplasmic side.
Protein Families
Glycosyltransferase group 1 family, Glycosyltransferase 30 subfamily
