Target Background

Function
Microtubule-dependent motor protein required for organelle transport. Plays a role in endosome transport. Required for the transport of mitochondria along the axon of motor neurons. Involved in the nuclear migration of hyp7 hypodermal precursor cells. Required for the formation of dendritic branches of PVD sensory neurons. In non-ciliated neurons such as the PVD and PHC neurons, required for the organization of minus-end out microtubules in dendrites. Involved in the localization of unc-33 to neurites.
Gene References into Functions
  1. dendritic branch distribution depends on the balance between the molecular motors UNC-116 and dynein, and we propose that RAB-10 regulates dendrite morphology by balancing the activity of these motors to the transmembrane receptor DMA-1. PMID: 26633194
  2. Kinesin-1 regulates dendrite microtubule polarity through directly gliding the plus-end-out MTs out of the dendrite using both the motor domain and the C-terminal MT-binding domain. PMID: 23482306
  3. data support a model in which ongoing motor-driven delivery and removal of AMPARs controls not only the number but also the composition of synaptic AMPARs, and thus the strength of synaptic transmission. PMID: 24360545
  4. results support a model in which the MIG-15 kinase and the UNC-116-WVE-1 complex act on opposite sides of the growth cone to promote robust directional migration PMID: 21937599
  5. Data support a model in which UNC-83 plays a central role in nuclear migration by acting to bridge the nuclear envelope and as a kinesin-1/Unc-116 cargo-specific adaptor so that motor-generated forces specifically move the nucleus as a single unit. PMID: 19605495
