Target Background

Function
Serine/threonine-protein kinase which regulates mRNA translation. Negatively regulates lifespan and resistance to starvation, oxidative stress, protein aggregation and P.aeruginosa-mediated infection. May regulate these processes by preventing the activation of transcription factor hif-1. Required, probably downstream of let-363/TOR, for the establishment of the proper number of germline progenitors by promoting cell cycle progression and preventing differentiation during larval development. Regulates germ cell size. In addition required for sperm production and embryo viability. Involved in axon regeneration of PLM and ALM neurons by inhibiting growth cone formation early after axotomy and later by inhibiting axon extension. Functions in axon regeneration and lifespan probably by preventing aak-2/AMPK activation. Negatively regulates autophagy.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Inhibiting rsks-1 in the germline leads to cell-nonautonomous activation of DAF-16. The daf-2 rsks-1 double mutant shows synergistic lifespan extension. PMID: 24332851
  2. RSKS-1 is not required for axonal development but inhibits axon regrowth in multiple neuron types. PMID: 24431434
  3. Results establish the C. elegans germ line as an in vivo model to understand TOR-S6K signaling in proliferation and differentiation and suggest that this pathway is a key nutrient-responsive regulator of germline progenitors. PMID: 22278922
Subcellular Location
Cell projection, axon. Perikaryon.
