Target Background

Function
Substrate-specific adapter of a DCX (DDB1-CUL4-X-box) E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase complex required for cell cycle control. The DCX(DTL) complex, also named CRL4(CDT2) complex, mediates the polyubiquitination and subsequent degradation of E2f during S phase. E2f degradation is necessary to ensure proper development. Substrates require their interaction with PCNA for their polyubiquitination: substrates interact with PCNA via their PIP-box, leading to recruit the DCX(DTL) complex.
Gene References into Functions
  1. L(2)dtl is essential for Drosophila development. PMID: 22722696
  2. L2DTL and PCNA interact with CUL4/DDB1 complexes and are involved in CDT1 degradation after DNA damage. PMID: 16861906
Subcellular Location
Cytoplasm.
Protein Families
WD repeat cdt2 family
Tissue Specificity
Ubiquitously expressed during embryogenesis with no sign of tissue specificity in expression up to stage 17.
