Target Background

Function
Lamins are components of the nuclear lamina, a fibrous layer on the nucleoplasmic side of the inner nuclear membrane, which is thought to provide a framework for the nuclear envelope and may also interact with chromatin. In spermatocytes, regulates cytokinesis during meiosis.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Lamin C, the sole A-type lamin in Drosophila, contributes to the process of thorax closure in pupa. PMID: 29559239
  2. Human progeroid syndrome-modeled LamC mutations induced premature aging in adult flight muscles, including decreased levels of specific mitochondrial protein transcripts (RNA) and progressive mitochondrial degradation. They also induced the accelerated appearance of other phenotypes associated with aging. PMID: 27451905
  3. The critical function of A-type lamin C proteins in Drosophila musculature is to maintain proper function and morphology of tendon cells. PMID: 22982669
  4. Study finds that C-terminal fragments of DFz2 accumulate in nuclear foci in association with large RNA granules localizing to the space between the inner PMID: 22579286
  5. Drosophila lamC has a tissue-specific role during development and is required for chromatin organization. PMID: 20505245
  6. larval muscle-specific expression of a truncated form of Lamin C lacking the N-terminal head (Lamin C DeltaN) caused muscle defects and semi-lethality, with adult 'escapers' possessing malformed legs. PMID: 20702563
  7. Data provide the first detailed genetic analysis of the LamC gene and support using Drosophila as a model to study the role of lamins in disease. PMID: 15965247

First detected from late stage 12 in the oenocytes, abdominal segments, hindgut and posterior spiracles, with expression increasing in stage 13 (at protein level). In stage 14, also becomes detectable in the foregut (at protein level). Stage 15 shows expr
