Target Background

Function
Acts as a transcriptional repressor. Prevents the photoperiodic and circadian clock-dependent transition to flowering in long days (LD) by repressing the expression of flowering time genes (e.g. FT, GI and CO) in the leaf vasculature, and by interfering with floral meristem identity genes at the apex (e.g. SOC1 and LFY).
Gene References into Functions
  1. Ectopic LATE expression leads to delayed flowering, repression of inflorescence growth, and to sterile and incomplete flowers. PMID: 21771123
Subcellular Location
Nucleus.
Tissue Specificity
Mostly expressed in leaves and flower buds, and, to a lower extent, in seedlings and shoot apex, but not in roots and floral primordia.
