Target Background

Function
Essential component of the spindle apparatus required for spindle positioning and chromosome movement. Acts to recruit or anchor gpr-1/gpr-2 complex to the spindle and cortex. Also involved, directly or indirectly, in cytokinesis and in the coupling of DNA replication, centrosome duplication and mitotic division.
Gene References into Functions
  1. LIN-5 is required for EMS spindle positioning, possibly through a Galpha- and DLG-1-independent mechanism. PMID: 27672093
  2. Four distinct in vivo phosphorylated LIN-5 residues were found to have critical functions in spindle positioning. Two of these residues form part of a 30 amino acid binding site for GPR-1, which we identified by reverse two-hybrid screening. These LIN-5 phosphorylations promote LIN-5-GPR-1/2 interaction and contribute to cortical pulling forces PMID: 27711157
  3. Dynamic localization of lin-5 to cell cortex forces generation of domains during spindle positioning. PMID: 18234174
Subcellular Location
Cytoplasm, cell cortex. Cytoplasm, cytoskeleton, spindle. Chromosome, centromere, kinetochore. Cytoplasm, cytoskeleton, microtubule organizing center, centrosome.
