Target Background

Function
Participates in the translocation of lipoproteins from the inner membrane to the outer membrane. Only forms a complex with a lipoprotein if the residue after the N-terminal Cys is not an aspartate (The Asp acts as a targeting signal to indicate that the lipoprotein should stay in the inner membrane); the inner membrane retention signal functions at the release step.; May act as a regulator of the RCS-phosphorelay signal transduction pathway.
Gene References into Functions
  1. analysis of roles of the hydrophobic cavity and lid of LolA in the lipoprotein transfer reaction in Escherichia coli PMID: 16354671
  2. The membrane localization of lipoproteins with the LolA derivative lacking the 3(10) helix was independent of LolB whereas LolB was essential for the outer membrane localization of lipoproteins with the wild-type LolA. PMID: 18503771
  3. the modified weighed Chemical-Shift Index (CSI) method suggested that the secondary structure of LolA in solution generally corresponded to that in the crystal structure PMID: 19636845
