Target Background

Function
Converts lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) into phosphatidic acid by incorporating acyl moiety at the 2 position. Has preference for C-18-CoA substrates compared to C-16-CoA substrates. Required for female but not male gametophyte development.
Gene References into Functions
  1. The findings propose a revised model of membrane lipid remodelling, in which de novo phospholipid biosynthesis mediated by LPAT2 contributes significantly to root development under phosphate starvation. PMID: 28548242
  2. AtLPAT2, encodes the ubiquitous, abundant, and ER-located LPAT. It is essential for female but not male gametophyte development [LAPT2] PMID: 15772283
Subcellular Location
Endoplasmic reticulum membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.
Protein Families
1-acyl-sn-glycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferase family
Tissue Specificity
Present in roots, leaves, stems, floral buds and siliques (at protein level). Widely expressed. In contrast to LPAT1, it is not expressed at higher level in leaves.
