Target Background

Function
Probable histone demethylase that specifically demethylates 'Lys-4' of histone H3, a specific tag for epigenetic transcriptional activation, thereby acting as a corepressor. Acts by oxidizing the substrate by FAD to generate the corresponding imine that is subsequently hydrolyzed. Demethylates both mono- and di-methylated 'Lys-4' of histone H3. Participates in the transcriptional repression of the presenilin protein hop-1. May act via the formation of a multiprotein complex that remodel or modify the chromatin. Together with met-2, set-17 and set-26, required for transgenerational fertility.
