Target Background

Function
Repressor of the marRAB operon which is involved in the activation of both antibiotic resistance and oxidative stress genes. Binds to the marO operator/promoter site.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Mutations in marR selected in ciprofloxacin-resistant clinical isolates are strongly biased against inactivating mutations. Selection favours mutant alleles that have the lowest fitness costs, even though these cause only modest reductions in drug susceptibility. PMID: 28962020
  2. These findings indicate, as for the MarR homologue MTH313, the presence of a ligand binding pocket located between the dimerization and DNA binding domains. PMID: 23687277
  3. role of marRAB in susceptibility to cationic antimicrobial peptides PMID: 19926649
  4. MarR interacts with transketolase A and its repression of the marRAB operon was interfered by transketolase A. PMID: 17850260
