Target Background

Function
This is one of three E.coli hydrogenases synthesized in response to different physiological conditions. HYD1 is believed to have a role in hydrogen cycling during fermentative growth.
Gene References into Functions
  1. The crystal structure of the Escherichia coli O2-sensitive C19G [NiFe]-hydrogenase-1 variant shows that the mutation results in a novel FeS cluster, proximal to the Ni-Fe active site. PMID: 29888350
  2. Studies indicate that Hyd-1 is encoded by the first two genes of the hyaABCDEF operon, hyaA and hyaB, and the arginine/lysine substitution lowers the H2 oxidation rate by nearly 2 orders of magnitude. PMID: 28001048
  3. Crystal structure of dimeric membrane-bound O(2)-tolerant hydrogenase 1 from Escherichia coli in a 2:1 complex with its physiological partner, cytochrome b. PMID: 23260654
  4. These results suggest that the ability to oxidize hydrogen by hydrogenase 1 shows a strong correlation with the rate of carbon flow through glycolysis and provides a direct link between hydrogen, carbon and energy metabolism. PMID: 22241049
Subcellular Location
Cell inner membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein; Periplasmic side.
Protein Families
