Target Background

Function
Confers resistance to acriflavine, chloramphenicol, norfloxacin, ethidium bromide and TPP.
Gene References into Functions
  1. MdtM, a 410 amino acid residue protein that belongs to the large and ubiquitous major facilitator superfamily. [review] PMID: 28962921
  2. MdtM, a single-component multidrug resistance transporter of the major facilitator superfamily, functions in bile salt resistance in Escherichia coli by catalysing secondary active transport of bile salts out of the cell cytoplasm. PMID: 24684269
  3. Taken together, the results support a role for MdtM in alkaline pH tolerance. MdtM can therefore be added to the currently limited list of antiporters known to function in pH homeostasis in the model organism E. coli. PMID: 23701827
  4. Purified MdtM is monomeric and stable in dodecyl-beta-D-maltopyranoside solution and binds chloramphenicol with nanomolar affinity in the same detergent. PMID: 22426385
Subcellular Location
Cell inner membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.
Protein Families
Major facilitator superfamily
