Target Background

Function
Component of the Mediator complex, a coactivator involved in regulated gene transcription of nearly all RNA polymerase II-dependent genes. Mediator functions as a bridge to convey information from gene-specific regulatory proteins to the basal RNA polymerase II transcription machinery. Mediator is recruited to promoters by direct interactions with regulatory proteins and serves as a scaffold for the assembly of a functional preinitiation complex with RNA polymerase II and the general transcription factors. Required for asymmetric division of T-cells and for hypodermal development.
Gene References into Functions
  1. LET-19 and DPY-22 in the Mediator complex repress the transcription of Wnt target genes and are required for asymmetric cell division. PMID: 15790964
Subcellular Location
Nucleus.
Protein Families
Mediator complex subunit 13 family
Tissue Specificity
Widely expressed in most adult tissues including the vulva, tail neurons, skeletal muscle, hypodermal cells, the excretory canal and pharynx.
