Target Background

Function

Component of the Mediator complex, a coactivator involved in the regulated transcription of nearly all RNA polymerase II-dependent genes. Mediator functions as a bridge to convey information from gene-specific regulatory proteins to the basal RNA polymerase II transcription machinery. Mediator is recruited to promoters by direct interactions with regulatory proteins and serves as a scaffold for the assembly of a functional preinitiation complex with RNA polymerase II and the general transcription factors. Required for proliferation of enteric nervous system precursors. Required for the development of dopaminergic amacrine cells and rod photoreceptor cells in the retina.

This study revealed a number of defects in the development of the enteric nervous system, interstitial cells of Cajal , and intestinal motility in the zebrafish mutant, lsn PMID: 26685876
Data demonstrate that lsn/trap100 is not required for initial steps of cranial neural crest development and migration, but is essential for later proliferation of enteric nervous system precursors in the intestine. PMID: 16396911
