Target Background

Function
This regulatory protein, when combined with SAM (S-adenosylmethionine) represses the expression of the methionine regulon and of enzymes involved in SAM synthesis. It is also autoregulated.
Gene References into Functions
  1. We found that potentiating mutations in metJ increase expression of metA, which encodes the first step of methionine biosynthesis. This increase in expression is required for the previously identified actualizing mutations in metA to generate cooperation. PMID: 28493869
  2. Transcript analysis reveals an extended regulon and the importance of protein-protein co-operativity for the Escherichia coli methionine repressor PMID: 16515535
