Target Background

Function
The active factor is excreted into the culture medium by haploid cells of the A mating type and acts on cells of the opposite mating type (type alpha). It mediates the conjugation process between the two types by inhibiting the initiation of DNA synthesis in type alpha cells and synchronizing them with type A.
Gene References into Functions
  1. MFA2 mRNA was more rapidly deadenylated as well as significantly stabilized in the ccr4 deadenylation mutant in the edc3 lsm4C background. These results suggest a role for these decapping factors in stabilizing mRNA and may implicate P bodies as sites of reduced mRNA degradation. PMID: 28290514
  2. MFA2 mRNAs are transported to the shmoo tip, in complex with processing body-like particles, where they are locally translated. PMID: 26101218
  3. post-UV histone modifications and chromatin remodelling at the repressed MFA2 promoter do not activate MFA2 transcription, nor do they require damage recognition by Rad4p or Rad14p PMID: 16082210
Subcellular Location
Cell membrane; Lipid-anchor; Cytoplasmic side.
