Target Background

Function
May form complexes with phosphorylated ligands by interfering with kinases and their effectors. Regulates seed germination via the abscisic acid (ABA) and gibberellic acid (GA)signaling pathways. During seed germination, MFT expression is directly repressed by ABI3 or promoted by ABI5 in the ABA signaling pathway. Involved in a negative feedback regulation of ABA signaling. Promotes embryo growth by direct repression of ABI5. In the GA signaling pathway, MFT expression is promoted by the DELLA protein RGL2 during seed germination. May regulate seed germination and fertility through the brassinosteroid (BR) signaling pathway.
Gene References into Functions
  1. Unlike DOG1, expression of MOTHER of FLOWERING TIME (MFT) has an opposite thermal response in seeds of the two ecotypes, and may therefore have a role in their different dormancy cycling phenotypes. PMID: 23590427
  2. MFT function is also relevant to the brassinosteroids signaling pathway. PMID: 20935478
  3. During seed germination, MFT promotes embryo growth by constituting a negative feedback loop in the ABA signaling pathway. PMID: 20551347

Cytoplasm.
Protein Families
Phosphatidylethanolamine-binding protein family
