Target Background

Function
Component of the mitochondrial inner membrane i-AAA protease supercomplex required for mitochondrial inner membrane protein turnover. Together with MGR3, functions in an adapter complex that targets substrates to the i-AAA protease for degradation. Required for growth of cells lacking the mitochondrial genome.
Gene References into Functions
  1. this study, reports the unexpected identification of mitochondrial outer-membrane proteins whose degradation requires the Yme1-Mgr1-Mgr3 i-AAA protease complex in mitochondrial inner membrane. PMID: 29138251
  2. Results suggest that Mgr3p and Mgr1p function in an adaptor complex that targets substrates to the i-AAA protease for degradation. PMID: 18843051
Subcellular Location
Mitochondrion inner membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.
Protein Families
MGR1 family
